![]() If you only see objects from one culture I recommend starting with the Aztecs. Or focus on a particular area and visit the museum on another trip to see more. You could spend many hours here and I recommend taking some time in the middle to sit and relax so you don’t get burned out. Smaller texts next to objects are in Spanish only. I highly recommend that you work with a guide who has a federal permit- even better yet a guide with a background in Anthropology. The history of this continent does not begin with white peoples’ arrival and this museum quickly disabused you of that notion of you hold it. An absolute must visit, you will be enthralled not only by visual qualities of the objects you see, but you will also benefit from the bilingual introductory text panels and gain a better understanding of what you are looking at. Some of the most important Mesoamerican objects in history are kept here. This extra large Museum is organized by geographic region and then the cultures that have traditionally called it home. While Mexico continues to have a contentious relationship with its indigenous peoples living throughout the country, this museum represents some of the best a national government can do to celebrate the culture of the people who lived in the land before colonialization. My third time visiting, I was, once again, left awestruck. ![]() As a museum director from the US here on a group tour we organized for community members back home, this was high on our list for a visit.
